Afghan Children's Songbook Project
Contract Amount: US$3,000
Contract Term: January 15, 2012 to September 30, 2012
Project Title: Afghan Children’s Songbook Project
The Afghan Children’s Songbook Project provides funding towards the printing and dissemination of 5000 Afghan Children’s Songbook Qu Qu Qu Barg-e-Chinaar to schools, orphanages and women and family centers across Afghanistan in order to strengthen cultural ties, preserve these important traditional songs and enhance basic literacy.
Primary beneficiaries of the project are young Afghan children, ages 4-9, in pre-schools, elementary schools and orphanages across Afghanistan and Afghan women who are part of women or family center or other entity and are trying to enhance their literacy skills.
Most schools have few or no educational resources. We expect that the songbook, which will be given to every child in a school, will be used not only as a cultural resource but as a basic literacy tool. When distributed to adult women, the songbook can also be used as a literacy tool. The In-Country Distribution Manager will contact sites who have received the songbooks to evaluate how the songbooks are being used.
Individuals can now order English versions of the Afghan Song Book from the project website. Sales of the books supports the projects for more print runs, to refine the distribution and continue to promote this resource.
