Project: Teachers’ salaries and supplies at three NEHC schools
Location: Peshawar, PK and Jalalabad
Canadian Donor Support: US$40,000 per annum
In collaboration with the Oakville-based, Canadians in Support of Afghan Women (CSAW), our organization shares a partnership with NEHC funding three community schools.
NEHC is a registered non-profit, non political education facility for Afghan children. The organization was started in 1980 by Mrs. Nazaneen Majeed to provide education for children in the refugee camps in Peshawar, Pakistan. In addition to funding the refugee school in the Peshawar area, NEHC also operates a school in Jalalabad, Afghanistan and a third school in a village nearby Jalalabad.
Funding from Canadian donors via CW4WAfghan and CSAW pays for teachers' salaries, students' supplies, books and other operating costs. In addition to ongoing funding for teachers’ salaries at these schools, a special school building project was undertaken and implemented with the direct involvement of a Calgary volunteer between August and December 2008. This resulted in a beautiful new 10 room school building for an estimated 1000 students. Please visit www.CanadiansInSupportOfAfghanWomen.ca for more details.
