Partner: Shuhada Organization
Project: Girls High School
Location: Jaghori District, Ghazni Province
Canadian Donor Support: US$30,000
CW4WAfghan is supporting a school operated by Shuhada Organization in the Jaghori District, in the Ghazni Province. A total of 2,988 girls are receiving an education in grades I to XII, and each year approximately 50 girls have graduated. A great achievement for Shuhada Organization are the 30 to 40 of these graduating young women who passed the entrance exam in the Kabul University.
The Shuhada Girls' High School in Jaghori District is registered with the Ministry of Education in Kabul and the government curriculum is being used in the school. Education is one of the main focuses of the Shuhada Organization, a non-governmental and non-profit organization committed to the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan with special emphasis on the empowerment of women and children. The Shuhada Organization operates programs in the areas of health, education, income generation, construction and training. Founded and directed by Dr. Sima Samar, the Shuhada Organization is the oldest Afghan NGO working in the region and the largest Afghan women-led non-government organization.
In applying for a continuation of funding for the school, the Shuhada Organization gave as its goals: to improve the standard of education in the school; to provide educational opportunities for girls and women; to increase the rate of literacy among girls in particular and Afghan society in general; to encourage the further enrollment of girls into learning institutions; to involve people, especially women in the reconstruction and development of the country; to involve women in social reforms and to create a primary education infrastructure network in the region. CW4WA Breaking Bread fundraising is helping to make it possible for Shuhada Organization to reach these goals.
July 2009:
Our latest proposal from Shuhada summaries:
The project will focus mainly on improving quality of education to the 2,988 girls and 51 teachers through:
Books for library:
Beside the school books the students have no access to any other kind of resource to get general information on their particular subjects/topics. With providing more books for the library the student will have access to more velum of books relevant to the field of there studies to build their general knowledge and have general studies/observation
Equipment for school laboratory:
The education system is more theoretic in the country even all the science subject like chemistry, physics and Biology are taught theoretic to the students and the students always read and memorize the science subject for the exam and a few days after exam they will be forgotten. It’s a big challenge for the student and education system in the country at all. With a well equip laboratory in the school the will find more opportunities practically.
Tree plantation in the school:
The school is located in a desert while there is no green environment for students and teachers for refreshment purposes. By plantation of trees from one hand the space of school will be green and from other hand it will improve the culture of tree plantation to the region.
Primary Beneficiaries of Project:
A number of 2,988 girl students and 51 teachers will be the primary beneficiaries of this project while the inhabitants of surrounding villages may use the books based on a specific plan and timetable.
