Afghan Ambassador to Speak in Calgary and Edmonton
Afghanistan's Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Jawed Ludin, is coming to Edmonton on April 27th and Calgary April 28th. Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan and the Canada Afghanistan Solidarity Committee will host an important panel discussion about Canada's future in Afghanistan, at the Kahanoff Centre. Panelists, including H.E. Jawed Ludin, Afghanistan's Ambassador to Canada, will be discussing 'What Should Canada Do in Afghanistan Post-2011?' Also on the panel will be award-winning journalist Terry Glavin, Najia Haneefi, former head of Afghanistan's largest women's organization, The Afghan Women's Education Centre, and Lauryn Oates, Projects Director for Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan and the internationally involved human rights activist singled out by the Globe and Mail as one of the 10 go-ahead young people in Canada to keep an eye on.
The panel is likely to deal with issues such as: Does Canada have a responsibility to help in the reconstruction of Afghanistan post its NATO involvement? How does Canada's historic role as a peacekeeper square with a pull-out from Afghanistan? How is Canada's self-interest, and particularly its national security, related to its role in Afghanistan? What kind of a role should Canada play once its military involvement has ended?
The event 'Keeping Our Promises: What Should Canada Do in Afghanistan Post-2011?' will begin at 7pm sharp and continue, with questions from the audience, until 9pm. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Please see full details on the following flyers.
