Call for Volunteers with language skills - Pashto, Dari and English

Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan) is seeking volunteers with language skills in one or more of the following languages to assist us in developing the Darakht-e Danesh digital collection of resources for Afghan educators: Pashto, Dari (or Farsi/Persian), and English. Volunteers should have an interest in supporting Afghan teachers, and this role is ideal for someone with an educator background who can search out and identify quality educational materials on the Internet.

Thank you for sharing this with others who might be interested in supporting this important initiative.

Call for Volunteers!

What:   CW4WAfghan is pleased to soon be launching an online database of resources for educators in Afghanistan. The database, called the Darakht-e Danesh Library for Educators in Afghanistan, will have collections across all educational subjects and levels, from years 1 thru 12. There are three collections: Pashto, Dari and English. This undertaking is part of the CIDA-funded Excel-erate Teacher Training Program in Afghanistan, a project designed and implemented by CW4WAfghan in collaboration with its Afghanistan-based partner, the Afghan Women’s Resource Centre,

Who:
CW4WAfghan is seeking volunteers with language skills in one or more of the following languages to assist us in developing the Darakht-e Danesh collection: Pashto, Dari (or Farsi/Persian), and English. Volunteers should have an interest in supporting Afghan teachers, and this role is ideal for someone with an educator background who can search out and identify quality educational materials on the Internet.

Where: This volunteer work can be done virtually, from the volunteer’s home, workplace or in a library. The volunteer will need Internet access and will be directly uploading educational resources into an online database via a website.

How:
The volunteers will use a variety of means to find appropriate educational resources, including searching in open educational resource (OER) collections on the internet, contacting other agencies to share their materials, or scanning hardcopy materials in Dari or Pashto. Volunteers will participate in an orientation session on finding materials and uploading them to the database. No previous experience is required and the database is user-friendly. Volunteers will be in regular contact with the Excel-erate management team.

Why: Volunteers assisting with this initiative have the opportunity to contribute to a unique digital collection of educational material designed specifically for Afghan educators, and with materials in their local languages. There is an extreme shortage of access to such materials among teachers and teacher trainers in Afghanistan and this project will help fill that gap. This is also an excellent opportunity to build skills in educational content, and get more involved with CW4WAfghan.
