Products Team Members

CW4WAfghan chapters sell Afghan products at events across Canada, which support Afghan women artisans and small businesses. We are seeking individuals to participate on our national Products Team to assist with product research, vetting vendors, purchasing and liaising with chapters for orders and shipping. In addition, we are looking for individuals with an interest in supporting the development of online sales for products sold by our network. This volunteer role may be based anywhere in Canada, and will be supported by the Public Engagement Team at CW4WAfghan.

Ideal candidates for this role include someone who is: 

  • Familiar with wholesale buying from developing country markets
  • Experienced in retail or online sales
  • Some business management experience desired
  • Aware of current online sales platforms
  • Passionate about improving the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan
  • Comfortable working remotely
  • A proactive and responsive communicator who will work productively with chapter contacts
  • Has an interest in researching new merchants and products, and in evolving CW4WAfghan’s product sales activities

Graphic Designer(s)

CW4WAfghan has several needs around our branding and publications, both online and in hard copy. We are seeking a creative individual (or more than one individual) to assist with design of promotional and fundraising materials, website design, document formatting and more. This volunteer role may be project specific or a national coordination role; be based anywhere in Canada; and will be supported by the Public Engagement Team of CW4WAfghan and the Manager of Fund Development and Public Engagement.

Ideal candidates for this role include someone who is: 

  • Experienced in graphic design
  • Experienced or familiar with nonprofit marketing and community engagement
  • Aware of current tools and online platforms
  • Passionate about improving the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan
  • Comfortable working remotely and with minimal supervision
  • Has an interest in researching new ideas and tools

Fund Raisers

The Fund Development Team of CW4WAfghan is seeking volunteers interested in building our capacity to increase our donor base to advance the work of CW4WAfghan, including individuals, foundations, corporations and other funding streams. This volunteer role can be based anywhere in Canada, and will be supported by the Fund Development Team as well as the Manager of Fund Development and Community Engagement.

Ideal candidates for this role will have experience and/or an interest in any of these areas:

  • Prospect identification and research
  • Proposal and appeal writing and editing
  • Prospect solicitation
  • Community engagement
  • Donor stewardship and acknowledgement
  • Event management and promotion

Translators

The Darakht-e Danesh Library (DD Library) is a digital repository of free and open educational resources (OERs) for Afghan teachers, students, and anyone with a curious mind who wants to learn more on a particular subject. The library’s learning materials include more than 4,000 resources in over 350 subjects and in a variety of grade-level categories, for both primary and secondary teachers, in six languages: Dari, Pashto, English, and the Afghan minority languages of Nooristani, Uzbeki, Swaji and Munji. As most items in the collection are available under free licenses, they may be freely viewed, downloaded, shared, adapted, translated and repurposed.

CW4WAfghan is seeking volunteer translators for materials housed in the DD Library. 

Ideal candidates for this role:

  • Are bilingual individuals who can speak English and Pashto or Dari
  • Have strong writing and translation skills
  • Are passionate about improving the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan
  • Are comfortable working remotely with minimal supervision

Collections Assistants: Technical Glossaries

The Darakht-e Danesh Library (DD Library) is a digital repository of free and open educational resources (OERs) for Afghan teachers, students, and anyone with a curious mind who wants to learn more on a particular subject. The library’s learning materials include more than 4,000 resources in over 350 subjects and in a variety of grade-level categories, for both primary and secondary teachers, in six languages: Dari, Pashto, English, and the Afghan minority languages of Nooristani, Uzbeki, Swaji and Munji. As most items in the collection are available under free licenses, they may be freely viewed, downloaded, shared, adapted, translated and repurposed.

CW4WAfghan is seeking volunteer collections assistants to help develop glossaries of technical terms and their definitions for academic subjects housed in the DD Library. To start, our glossary contains terms in six subjects requiring definitions in English, Farsi and Pashto.

Ideal candidates for this role:

  • Have strong writing skills in one of the following languages: English, Pashto, or Farsi
  • Have strong research and organizational skills
  • Are passionate about improving the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan
  • Are comfortable working remotely with minimal supervision

Arabic Language Subject – Collection Development Volunteer

Our digital library, Darakht-e Danesh (“knowledge tree”) is adding a new subject collection to the library: Arabic Language. Arabic is one of the subjects of the Afghan curriculum, and we are seeking an Arabic speaker to help us curate an excellent collection of educational materials for Arabic language learning for Afghan school children. This role will involve searching for high quality Arabic materials at various grade levels, that are openly licensed so they can be reproduced in our library, and uploading them into the library. The volunteer will be provided with an orientation to using the library, to open licensing (if needed), and will be supported by the DD Library team, including a librarian, who can provide guidance on identifying materials that fit with the library’s Collection Development policies. This volunteer role is remote, and can be done from any location as long as the volunteer has a computer and Internet access.

Ideal candidates for this role have:

  • Fluency in (written/read) Arabic
  • Internet research skills
  • Good critical thinking skills
  • A background in education is helpful but not required
  • Are passionate about improving the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan
  • Are comfortable working remotely with minimal supervision
