Canadians  for Women in Afghanistan

Since the first event of the Kingston Chapter of Canadians for Women in Afghanistan, in November, 2003, our small group has raised over $70,000.00 to hire teachers in Afghanistan and to support many other projects which benefit women and children. We have featured author Deborah Ellis, journalist Sally Armstrong (on two occasions), the Honourable Flora MacDonald, Omar Samad, Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Canada, and acclaimed photojournalist Lana Slezic, as guest speakers at five galas and a smaller event.  We have held many  functions and have been fortunate to receive donations and many other kinds of support from diverse groups and individuals.

The membership of the chapter fluctuates but currently includes over twenty members, both female and male, from the education and other sectors.  New members are welcome at any time.

Our chapter meets at intervals, from once a month to once every six weeks, and more often prior to the annual gala.  Meetings are usually held at the Limestone District Education Centre at 220 Portsmouth Avenue, Kingston.
