Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan

Since the first event of the Kingston Chapter of Canadians for Women in Afghanistan, in May, 2003, the chapter has raised over $153,000.00 to hire and train teachers in Afghanistan and support many other projects which benefit women and children. We have featured author Deborah Ellis, journalist Sally Armstrong, the Honourable Flora MacDonald, former Afghan Ambassadors to Canada, Omar Samad and Jawed Ludin, photojournalist Lana Slezic, CW4W Project Leader Lauryn Oates and Executive Director, Janice Eisenhauer, columnist/author Christie Blatchford, former Canadian Ambassador to Afghanistan William Crosbie, and Afghan-Canadian author Dr. Sharifa Sharif, as guest speakers at our annual galas. The chapter has hosted many functions and has been fortunate to receive donations and many other kinds of support from diverse groups and individuals.

The membership of the chapter fluctuates but currently includes 20 members, both male and female, from the education and other sectors. New members are welcome at any time.

Our chapter meets at intervals, from once a month to once every six weeks, and more frequently prior to the annual gala, usually held in the May of the year. Meetings are usually held at the Limestone Education Centre at 220 Portsmouth Avenue, Kingston, Ontario.
