Empowerment Through Education
Join us for a delicious home cooked Afghan meal, Afghan needlework and pashminas, and of course our Silent Auction!
Our speaker this year is Shamim Ahmadi, who was born in Afghanistan, went to school as a refugee in Pakistan and has since studied in Kabul, Kazakhstan, the U.S. and currently at Centennial College. Shamim founded the online Ahmada Development Organization and she writes "As a woman, I was never sure that one day I would be able to go for my higher education due to my gender issue, and now that I have achieved that opportunity, I am passionate to help other women all around the world through education. Upon graduation I hope to work as a nurse before enrolling in medical school to pursue my career as a doctor."
Tickets $30 or $20 students/unwaged available at the YWCA, 216 Simcoe St. and Silk Roots, 304 George St.
