Collaborating with the Canada Fund For Local Initiatives (CFLI) and the Teacher Education Directorate, Afghanistan Ministry of Education

Thank you to the Canada Fund For Local Initiatives (CFLI), Embassy of Canada in Afghanistan, for a grant to install the Darakht-e-Danesh Digital Library (DDL) at teacher training colleges (TTCs) in two Afghan provinces, Takhar and Laghman, and update previous installations in nine more provinces (Kabul, Parwan, Nangarhar, Khost, Badakhshan, Faryab, Bamyan, Kandahar and Herat), where CW4WAfghan has already installed 141 computers and printers through the support of USAID and The Asia Foundation. We are grateful to the CFLI for making it possible for CW4WAfghan to grow and expand this program for TTCs and provide thousands of educational resources and teaching materials for both male and female teacher trainees!

We are excited to announce two milestones in this project:

1. Ministry of Educaiton Approval

CW4WAfghan has received approval from the Teacher Education Directorate of the Afghanistan Ministry of Education to install the Darakht-e Danesh Library offline setup in the two TTCs in Takhar and Laghman provinces, and upgrade the library in nine more provinces: Kabul, Parwan, Herat, Badakhshan, Bamyan, Faryab, Kandahar, Khost and Nangarhar.

2. Contest for Female Teacher Trainee Students from 11 Afghan Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs)

Throughout October, CW4WAfghan held a writing contest for female students from 11 Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) in Takhar, Laghman, Kabul, Parwan, Herat, Badakhshan, Bamyan, Faryab, Kandahar, Khost and Nangarhar provinces. The teacher trainees were invited to prepare and submit learning materials, a lecture, a lesson plan or a game relevant to their Afghanistan Ministry of Education curriculum. We received 65 entries! A jury of five, including a representative of the Afghan Ministry of Education, will evaluate and score the entries based on the criteria outlined in the contest guidelines. Winners will be awarded a certificate and a trophy by our CW4WAfghan team when members travel to each of 11 TTCs over the next few weeks.

Says Murwarid Ziayee, CW4WAfghan Country Director, "We are tremendously grateful to the Canada Fund For Local Initiatives, Embassy of Canada in Afghanistan, for making it possible for CW4WAfghan to grow and expand this program for TTCs and provide thousands of educational resources and teaching materials for both male and female teacher trainees!"
