A Peace Deal That Makes a Run Around Women’s Rights is No Peace At All

For as long as I’ve lived, my country has been at war. Like most Afghans, there is nothing I want more than for peace and security to finally come to Afghanistan. But I am more afraid of the kind of “peace” being negotiated right now by the US President’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad and the Taliban in Qatar, than I am of the status quo. These can hardly be called peace talks at all if one considers the kind of peace they will mean for Afghan women. Afghan women like me already know what life awaits in an Afghanistan where the Taliban yield power — or are handed power unilaterally by a US Government in a rush to shake off its association with Afghanistan. CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL ARTICLE
